Andrew Mackiewicz, also known as Andy, is a 26-year-old Team USA Olympic fencer who is going for gold in Paris 2024. He is also a creative and a DJ.

Mackiewicz started fencing at the age of eight, and since then, he has been passionate about the sport. He has won several championships and reached the pinnacle of his career by competing in the Tokyo Olympics.

In an interview with The LA Note Magazine, Mackiewicz shared his journey, his aspirations, and his unique perspective on life.

A Kid at Heart Who Loves to Explore the World

Mackiewicz describes himself as a curious person who loves to live in the moment and be present. He enjoys trying new things, engaging with interesting people, and traveling around the world.

He started DJing during COVID-19 and never thought he would end up playing at one of New York City’s hottest rooftop clubs.

Apart from fencing, Mackiewicz is a Star Wars nerd and a dreamer. He believes that any dream is attainable by taking a risk and getting started, regardless of the sacrifices and challenges that come with it.

The AH-HA Moment That Ignited His Hunger for Success

Mackiewicz’s “AH-HA” moment came when he competed in the Tokyo Olympics. Being on the world’s biggest stage and maximizing his Olympic experience instilled a new hunger in him.

He realized that his journey was far from over, and there was still so much he could give to the sport and the community.

The Biggest Challenge and How He Overcame It

Mackiewicz’s journey has not been without its challenges. Being a fencer, a sport that is not as popular as others in America, led to him being picked on and made fun of by his classmates.

Additionally, he struggled with his mental health during his junior year at Penn State, where he was failing two classes and questioning his future in fencing.

Fortunately, a father figure in the fencing community was there for him when he needed it the most. He helped Mackiewicz to be vulnerable and believe in himself.

The mentor’s advice proved to be invaluable as it taught Mackiewicz about self-worth and resilience. Even after the father figure passed away, Mackiewicz continued to value his teachings and use them to grow.

Andrew Mackiewicz is a unique and inspiring individual who is passionate about fencing, exploring the world, and helping others achieve their dreams.

His journey has been full of challenges, but he has always found a way to overcome them and come out stronger.

As he prepares for Paris 2024, Mackiewicz is determined to give it his all and make his dream of winning Olympic gold a reality.
